Culture and Society. Design and Social Concern. Urban/Rural context/needs/problems. Social Structure and Identity. The Community, the Family and the Individual. What is ‘Indian’ and how it has been defined over time. Gandhian thoughts, Khadi, Rabindranath Tagores thoughts- Shilpa Sadan, Aurobindo and Mothers thoughts in auroville. Calendrical events: festivals, rituals, rites of passage. Design in everyday objects. Cultural artifacts, ritualistic artifacts, myths and legends. Observation and immersion. Interacting with strangers, self-reflexivity. Drawing as method of interaction, rapport-buildin.
